Getting Started

Note that the following information pertains to the Enterprise Edition.

Detailed setup information can be found in the Simutech Course Manager Guide and the Simutech Course Manager and Network Client CD that come with the Enterprise Edition of the software.

Setting up the Software

The Enterprise Edition of the Troubleshooting Skills Training System consists of several troubleshooting programs and course management software. There are two main setup options available: Server Option and Standalone Option. The option you purchased will be shown on your license document. Find out where this information can be found on the Account Information page.

Both of these options have different setup requirements and are summarized below. Detailed Setup Guides for each option can be found on your Simutech Course Manager and Network Client CD.

Server Installation

The Server Installation setup is designed for use on a Local Area Network (LAN). All of the software (Troubleshooting Skills programs and Simutech Course Manager) will be installed on a central server, and a network client will be installed on each client computer. The client computers will run the Troubleshooting Skills programs from the server over the network.

This installation is most appropriate for use in a classroom or on multiple computers throughout a facility. With this setup, the instructor or supervisor will be able to easily manage users and set program options from one location.

Standalone Computer Installation

Standalone Computers On a Network
The Standalone Computers On a Network setup option is best used for a lab with a small network, either wireless or wired. The program software will be installed on each student computer as well as the instructor computer. The Course Manager software will be installed on the instructor computer.

In this setup each student computer saves the students progress and results on the instructor computer. This allows the instructor to manage users and set program options from their own computer.

Standalone Computers On a Network

Standalone Computers with No Network
The Standalone Computers with No Network setup option is used for a lab with no network capabilities. The program software and the Course Manager software will be installed on each student computer as well as the instructor computer.

In this setup, the students' results and progress are saved on the student computers. Using this configuration, students must use the same computer for each session and the instructor will need to manage users and set program options on each computer separately.
